Blacklands

Named after the local rocks behind the break and also sharing the same name as the shingle beach, Blackland’s is the longer and more evenly paced point break to the east of the river.

The top of the point by the old salmon traps tends to be short and sweet before rapidly shutting down and it’s not until the lines approach the knuckle along the point does the waves shape really come to life.

Usually it’s a pretty standard drop into a shapely wall that peaks and troughs its speed as it trundles down the boulders.

Leg burners are a regular occurrence after multiple hits, roundhouse cutbacks. Not really  hollow wave and can feel slower than its cousin to its west, but when you connect the dots right into the shoreline at the base of the cliffs at Blacklands, boy it’s a long ride.

The paddle back out is a long and full of current, with most opting for the rock dance along the shoreline back up the point to catch a breath and try a do it all over again.

Flotilla of all shapes and sizes frequent this point. Very use friendly unless the swell is big and when that happens the crowd thins out but can be a zoo some days especially when the surf forecast star charts align. (60+ frothing hordes with drop ins, eggy stares and some choice words but no Keanu Reeves moments on the beach….. well not that many)

Say what?
